Food photography is part art and part science
Food is meant to be tasted but another way of “tasting” is with our eyes. Calgary based food photographer, Valerie Schneider can visually showcase the texture of a flaky pastry, or herbed butter melting on top of a char grilled steak. A summer themed beverage might require images that evoke a sense of fresh, cool and thirst-quenching drink. All of it requires specialized food photography techniques working with time, perfected lighting and food styling.
OUR PROCESS
Discovery
We listen first. Our process is about understanding your needs. Not one size fits all. We treat each project differently. This is also an integral part of planning out important details for our photo shoot together. We ask a lot of questions! So, it’s important that you have an idea of how these images will serve you. Are these for your signature dishes? seasonal dishes? a cookbook?
Site visit
For restaurants we do a walk-through of the space and you can let us know where would be an ideal spot for us to set up for food photography. We like to take some test shots while we’re there. In some instances natural light is not an option so we need to plan what gear to bring in for photo shoot day.
Capture
Let the magic begin! On photo shoot day we would have discussed how to access the space and how long we have it for. So, we also plan for set up and take down of our equipment. At this point we know what images we are creating so we can shoot untethered or tethered to a laptop it’s up to you!
Delivery
We aim to have your edited photos within 10 business days depending on the scope of your project or if there are deadlines you must meet for submitting to a competition. The type of edits will have been agreed on during our pre-production process.
